Don’t tell me to smile… What do we owe our children?

It is always amazing to me how the service industry comes and goes. Products are sometimes easy, as you can distinguish yourself with a product and have a limited audience very quickly. Service organizations require more work as the same items may be available across the board and may not require special products or services.

Take where you eat. You have a choice to eat fast food and pay little to no money for speed, but is fast food seeing a big picture? Has speed become serviceless? The last few times I was at McDonalds I struggled with the cashier as she was not as proficient in English and was not understanding me clearly. This works good for the bottom line perhaps, but will customers eventually revolt as the service levels become so low they cannot be considered service?

It appears places from technology to food have become less and less service oriented as the sheep become less and less sensitive to standards of service and often do not understand what they should be getting anyway.
So the question becomes, how do we set a new standard for service that once again includes the customer as a customer and not a temporary inconvenience?
Perhaps it is time for the notsheep of the world to force this issue and not accept mundane service. Perhaps it is time for a major change.
Much to consider as it is hard thinking like a sheep….
