Don’t tell me to smile… What do we owe our children?

It is funny watching how events unfold sometimes. Not because it is laughable, but because if you take a step back, you realize that the entire world is a stage, and there are not many who see it from the realm of a spectator. (Some credit to Shakespeare)

So this week I did the unthinkable, I replied to someone rant about racism on a page of a social media site. I was not pointed, nor was I “not pointed” instead I was very matter of fact. The ridiculous rant was concerning a user who stated a rather inflammatory comment about a recent riot. The old, “Why were you there?” speech. The whole idea behind the reply was foolish, and the idea behind the rant was fire and pitchforks.

My simple statement was “Hopefully you do not have to deal with this anymore.” but then, being me I added “(But in the end, smile! It makes people wonder what you know about them)”. I was innocent and I thought it over and did nothing to inflame the sheep of the field, but, and this is a big but (and I cannot lie) the reply came back “Don’t tell me to smile.”

I know I know, who cares, but the immediate response was 3 people liking the comment and it made me laugh. Did anyone read what was written, did they realize it was tongue in cheek at best, and goofy at worst, or was it simply an attempt to get fired up and start a fight, with sheep in tow.

I considered for a while and realized that sheep as a whole don’t think they are sheep until they do something as nonsensical as this and it is actions like this that lead to riots and unrest. After all, only a few wake up in the morning thinking, I guess I will go be stupid and destroy someones life and ruin my own. Most are following something they don’t quite understand and say the immortal words, “Watch this”
