Don’t tell me to smile… What do we owe our children?

When I was young and thought about Karma, it really did not make sense to me, the whole global retribution by example thing was jsut not something to consider. If you consider most religions, myths, and even common sense, they all lead down the path of “Do unto others” and for the most part people know this is morally correct. The problem anymore is morals in general, do they exist, and do people define them or just follow the sheep in front of them.

Consider our legal system, assailed by lawsuits of such frivolity as to be considered inane by any one person, but the people as a whole accept that McDonald’s is really responsible when hot coffee burns someone because they asked for hot coffee, that subway is responsible for having exactly foot long sandwiches, and that anyone who slips and falls really needs to syphon money from a person who may not have even been there when it happened.

This extends across all lines of life, children gladly blame parents for their stupid mistakes and do not take responsibility for their sheep actions, nor do criminals have to be responsible for anything, after all, they followed a greater master, whoever they define it as that day. In the workplace it is common for people to charge their superiors as incompetent, when their own incompetence shines brightly in their reporting their superiors. Athletes sue for more money, because they can, and presidents deny things so they wont get into trouble, and loosely blame it all on semantics.

I have digressed.

Isn’t it about time we decide not to be sheep and not follow the inane practices of other groups? Can we not start being responsible for ourselves? If we spill the coffee, ouch. If the bread is a little short, who cares, you shouldn’t be eating the foot-long anyway, if you fall, next time wear bubble wrap. Kids, its your fault the day you start telling your mom or dad you are smarter. Criminals, enjoy your time away, and stop doing abd things. Employees, if you have a problem, talk to your supervisor it may be that you are not bright enough to see a bigger picture., and if it is still bad, find another job. Athletes, get a grip, you are doing what you love and getting paid way too much. If you don’t love it, quit, we are tired of knowing you make more than most people will in their lives to play. Of course, shame on any president who would lie to the public and to himself.

It is time to consider change. I know we cannot change the world, or can we, today, just by changing ourselves. If those of you who are not sheep show the sheep a new way, perhaps they will follow someone with a brain this time.

Trying to stay neutral, but its hard to think like a sheep…
